Toddfather Plays Velour
January 25, 2025
Brogan came home in early January absolutely jumping up and down. He told us that evening that his band, Toddfather, had been invited to play at Velour in Provo. For a bit of perspective, Velour is a downtown Provo music venue that caters to the college crowd and it's a big deal. It's a genuine gig. This band has had several genuine gigs but I believe this is the one that they were over the moon about.
They practiced almost daily as they prepared for their big show. They were headlining Velour and, as such, were the last band to perform. There were three bands before them. We had estimated that, with the show starting at 7:30, that Toddfather would take the stage around 9:00. When we showed up at 8:30, the first band had just finished and the second band was getting ready so I was sure it was going to be a bit longer than we expected. But as we got there, we were thrilled to see family, Brogan's guitar teacher, Brogan's steel drum teacher, and Brogan's high school principle (who is also the namesake for the band). It was quite beautiful to see all the support they got.
The band that was performing when we got there was pretty horrible. Add to that that they were openly smoking marijuana...well, we weren't very interested. Brogan told us later that a member of the band had asked him for a light. That made me laugh.
The band that performed right before Brogan's was pretty good and entertaining but the most anticipated performance was, of course, Toddfather. And boy, did they have fans! People were wearing Toddfather shirts and the minute they took the stage, everyone that was there pushed forward to get as close as possible. They debuted 3 original songs (one of which is already playing on Spotify) and the finale song they played was pretty epic because my son started it off playing this amazing guitar solo and ended it with another. I honestly can't believe the things this kid is capable of. He may not love school but when he is interested in something and puts his heart into it, the sky is the limit.
